German Translator, Head of German Department

German-language translation is one of the largest and fastest-growing areas of NZTC’s international translation business. Head of Department Biljana Vignjevic was born in former Yugoslavia, but was brought up and educated primarily in Germany. Following a colourful variety of different work placements, including as a TV journalist and news presenter at Croatian public broadcasting company Hrvatska televizija, she emigrated to New Zealand over ten years ago and has been a fulltime translator with NZTC ever since.

Fraser Robertson

Frazer Robertson

Position: 
Translator and Editor for Chinese, Portuguese, Czech and Romance Languages

Frazer was born in New Zealand, but has also lived in the Czech Republic, Japan, Taiwan and Brazil. He joined NZTC in 2006.

Frazer holds a degree in Chinese from Victoria University of Wellington and also studied for several years at Tamkang University in Taipei, Taiwan. His experiences of living in different countries have equipped him with a broad range of linguistic skills. His work at NZTC mostly involves editing translations from English into other languages.

At present, Frazer is working remotely for the company from his temporary home in Rio de Janeiro.

A native of Sweden, Johanna has travelled extensively and lived in both Munich and London for several years before moving to New Zealand. She joined NZTC in 2007.

Senior Translator

While he might prefer to be translating the French poets or sounding the depths of Dostoyevsky’s more problematic characters, John specialises in the translation into English of legal, financial and business documents from over 25 western and eastern European languages. He works on many of the company’s most challenging projects, where his extensive knowledge and long experience are invaluable assets.

John began his career working for the Translation Service of the New Zealand Department of Internal Affairs. He then worked as a freelance translator before joining NZTC in 1988.

Born in New Zealand, Michael gained his BSc (Hons) in Botany at Victoria University, Wellington, and also engaged in postgraduate studies in landscape planning and design. He later spent nearly fifteen years living in Munich, Germany, working for the first nine years in an environmental planning consultancy as a landscape ecologist.

Born in Apt (Vaucluse, France), Pascal emigrated to New Zealand in 1988. After work stints in the insurance industry, as an agent for French exporters and as a freelance translator, he joined NZTC’s team of linguists in 2001.
‘The thing about translation is that you’re always learning something new’, says Pascal, who has particular expertise in the fields of technical translation and food labelling.

A native of Beijing, People’s Republic of China, Zhimin had wide experience in the machine tool manufacturing and tourism industries in China before emigrating to New Zealand in 1985.
