Patrick King

Director and Senior Editor

Co-founder of NZTC in 1985, today Patrick is Chief Editor and Co-Director of the company. In his almost 30 years in the translation industry, he has also worked as a New Zealand government translator and editor, and spent several years as a freelance translator. As head of NZTC’s translation and editorial teams, Patrick has a particular interest in the company’s Quality Management process, on which much of its reputation is based. This is on top of his own translation and editorial work, which spans nearly 20 languages, including French, German, Russian, Spanish, New Zealand Māori and other Pacific Island languages.

Patrick holds an MA in German and Russian and continues to be fascinated by words, languages and the process of human communication. He regularly travels overseas, visiting clients and attending international translation conferences – from the International Federation of Translators (FIT) conference in Shanghai to Localization World in Berlin. This keeps him abreast of the latest developments in the industry, especially new technologies that help improve the ways linguists work. Patrick is one of the founding members of the New Zealand Society of Translators and Interpreters (NZSTI), and has served as its President and Vice-President over past years. He was made a Fellow of the Society in July 2010.
